This is a collection of 36 articles about different aspects of the history of a Southern mill town. It includes a chapter on a Confederate infantry company, Co. "I" of the 7th Regiment, North Carolina State Troops, organized in 1861 just below what would become Mooresville, and also has a chapter on a World War I artillery battery, Battery "F" of the 113th Field Artillery Regiment, organized in the town in 1917. The book has chapter on the beginning of organized baseball in Mooresville and also has a chapter on the mill-sponsored black baseball team, the Negro Moors. Several chapters cover the history of the town's early schools and athletic teams, including the 1961 N.C. state high school football championship season.
